However, Benalla and GVL coach Nicholas Pearson is making no fuss when organising his leadership group, with the league unveiling five players set to be on the front line for the purple and gold on July 11.
Seymour features most prominently among the group as the only GVL side with two inclusions, with stars Riley Mason and Jack Murphy named following their brilliant starts to the Lions’ home and away campaign.

Mason, the 2024 GVL leading goalkicker, has been in fine form to begin the 2026 season, assuming his spot atop the league’s goal kicking tally once again with 24 goals to his name at just shy of five per outing, and will no doubt prove a handful for the VAFA backline.
Lions co-coach Murphy will also add plenty of on-field leadership and experience to the set up, not to mention his class through the middle and ability to hit the scoreboard, with his 31 disposal, five-goal effort against Tatura at the weekend a taste of what he offers.
Reigning Morrison medallist Callum Brown will assume a spot with the GV monogram emblazoned on his guernsey, as his terrific spout of form to start the year has been unmistakably noticed by interleague selectors.

Another former AFL weapon is Sam Reid, the Echuca talent boasting leadership qualities from his experience gained at the top flight and in his three premierships for the Murray Bombers this decade.
Reid has been a strong advocate of interleague football in recent times, having co-coached the GVL to success against the Ovens & Murray League alongside Mark Lambourn in 2024.
Rounding out the group, and joining Pearson in representing Benalla, is star Saints defender Nick Warnock, who is set to be a general in the backline after taking his intercepting game to the next level in the Saints’ campaign.
