The musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher and forms a secret rock band with his talented students to compete in the Battle of the Bands.
Show director and choreographer Shaun Geerlings-Parker said BATS staged two musicals each year and, after recently wrapping up a production of Grease, they were looking to do a show with kids in it.
“We thought School of Rock was a really good choice because we haven’t done a show with kids in it for a few years,” he said.
“I think it’s going to be quite a fun show, it’s a high-energy show and the music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer behind Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar.
“The movie is obviously quite popular too, so most people know the show, which is exciting.”

Joining Mr Geerlings-Parker on the production team are musical director Julie Wallis, technical director Josh Bakker and production manager Maddie Bakker.
Auditions for the musical are now open for ages 10 and up, with various roles on offer. Audition bookings are essential as there are limited spots.
Mr Geerlings-Parker said places were filling quickly and encouraged interested performers to secure their spot as soon as possible.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, June 28, from 1.30pm at the Broadford Secondary College School Hall.
Mr Geerlings-Parker said if people were unable to attend in person, video auditions were an option too and people could just message the BATS Facebook page.
“We’re always looking for people to get involved in the theatre group,” he said.
“We want people to come in and just have fun.”
The show will be held at Broadford Secondary College and run across five nights: Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18 and Friday October 23 and Saturday, October 24.
Tickets will go on sale in the next couple of weeks once the cast is confirmed.
