Figures released by the Crime Statistics Agency show a rise in criminal incidents across Moira Shire but a slight decrease in Cobram, as of March 2026, compared to the previous 12 months.
The number of overall criminal incidents in Moira Shire rose from 1742 incidents in 2025 to 1757 in 2026, a rise of 0.9 per cent.
Cobram and Strathmerton, however, have seen a drop in criminal incidents from 588 in 2025 to 582 in 2026 and in Strathmerton a drop from 34 in 2025 to 29 in 2026.
Comparatively, criminal incidents in Yarrawonga and Numurkah have risen, with 405 incidents in Yarrawonga this year compared to 368 last year and 366 in Numurkah compared to 329 the previous year.
While overall crime was down in Cobram, the town continues to see an increase in family violence incidents, which are up 9.8 per cent on the previous year.
The top five offence subgroups recorded in the 12 months to March 2026 were:
- Breach family violence order — 702 incidents, up from 608 the previous year
- Other theft — 205 incidents, down from 228 the previous year
- Criminal damage — 170 incidents, down from 197 previous year
- Drug possession — 117 incidents, down from 125 previous year
When it comes to overall criminal incidents, on a per capita basis, Moira Shire sits at 5646.2 incidents per 100,000 population.
