Fourteen killed in plane crash near South Sudan capital

A Cessna aircraft has crashed on the outskirts of South Sudan's capital, killing all 13 passengers and the pilot, the civil aviation authority says.

The authority said preliminary reports indicate that the plane arriving from Yei town may have crashed due to weather conditions that caused poor visibility.

It said the dead included two Kenyans, and the rest were South Sudanese.

The authority said a team was dispatched to the site about 20km outside Juba.

Videos of the crash site shared on social media showed remains of the aircraft in flames.Â

The location shown appeared hilly and misty.

The plane - a Cessna 208 Caravan - was operated by CityLink Aviation, officials said.

South Sudan has experienced a series of aviation accidents in recent years, often involving small aircraft operating in remote areas with limited infrastructure.

More than 55 planes have crashed, resulting in dozens of fatalities, in the decade following South Sudan's independence in 2011.
