After a rocky start to the NPL Two season the Suns have found some form, with a Tuesday night Australia Cup victory against NPL Three side the North Sunshine Eagles.
It was a classy performance from the Goulburn Valley side, scoring five goals and conceding none for a confidence-boosting 5-0 win.
While this result does not impact the NPL Two ladder, it is sure to put a spring in the side’s step, and with a return to league action, will hopefully help turn the season around.
Suns coach Craig Carley said the side wanted to push on in the league after the big win.
“We go into every game fully expecting to: one, compete; and two, get a result; and I think we can do that against Northcote this weekend,” Carley said.
“It’s a tough opposition against a team that is well more advanced than probably all teams in terms of budget and they’ve spent heavily and got some big names in this season and to be honest they haven’t performed.
“It’s going to be a tough game but hopefully if we can show our defensive resilience which we have over the last couple of games, albeit a seven-minute period against Moreland, I truly believe we can get the result.”
With a squad heavily impacted by injuries, the Suns are hoping to have Sean Pye and Jamie England back in the squad, with the duo missing Tuesday’s Australia Cup clash.
“In regards to a couple of others I’m not quite sure at this stage but they’ll certainly be two that we’ll be looking to include in the squad,” Carley said.
Saturday’s match is a crucial one for both sides, with the Suns currently winless after six games and Northcote City sitting on two wins.
NPL Two action is set to kick off at 4pm, with the sixth-placed under-21 side to begin at 2pm.
