The Tigers were the beneficiary of a Rumbalara forfeit at the weekend, with the result ensuring they remain third on the ladder heading into round six, where they will face a red hot Nathalia side that enjoyed a mammoth victory at the weekend.
The Purples proved far too good for Shepparton Swans under lights on Friday night, booting 20.11 (131) while keeping the Swans scoreless in a dominant display.
Abby Favaro led the way in the win with the biggest individual goal haul of the season so far, slotting 11 majors to take her tally to 18 to lead the league comfortably, seven clear of the next best.
Claudia Moore, Ruby McIver, Ayse Aykin (three goals) and Kathleen Caldow rounded out the best in the big win.
It is Shepparton United that continues to lead the way at the top of the table, however, having recorded its fifth win in as many games, although a doggedly-fought effort by Tatura restricted the Demons to a season-low total.
The Demons opened up a fast advantage by quarter-time, scoring 2.3 (15) while keeping the Bulldogs scoreless, however, the game would tighten up thereafter.
Just two more goals between both sides would be kicked across the next three quarters as the Demons and Dogs battled under Deakin Reserve lights, with Tatura producing a spirited effort to run with the league-leaders.
Still, Shepparton United proved why its the competition’s team to beat, rallying defensively when its attack was tested to limit the Bulldogs to half the scoring shots it produced across the match.
Star Demon Paige Baksh was vital across the contest, as was Atong Dang, as Peyton Johnston, Abbey Cutler and Kate Dixon scored the red and blue’s three majors in the 3.9 (27) to 1.5 (11) result.
Sarah Green was the sole goal-kicker for Tatura in the loss.
In the round’s other results, Moama defeated Mansfield in another low-scoring affair, largely due to double-take-worthy inaccuracy, kicking 1.14 (20) to 0.1 (1) in the win.
In the youth girls competition, the Swans took the win over Nathalia due to forfeit, while United beat Cobram by 49 points.
Moama’s youth girls had the bye and will return on Friday night against the Swans.
