Looking to put on a strong display following a wounding 47-32 loss against Rushworth last week, the Lakers were determined to not let any rot set in at Nagambie Recreation Reserve.
Down at Court 1, the scene was set for a landmark occasion as the club marked the achievements of stalwart Gabby Finnigan who was preparing to make her 150th appearance.
The goaler’s commitment to the Lakers cause was hailed by club chiefs as she received a bouquet of flowers in commemoration of her career, which started at junior level back in 2012.
Some 14 years later, a Nagambie representative described how Finnigan has since become part of the furniture at the club.
“Both on and off the court you will see Gab giving a helping hand, she has played important roles in our club, not just a player, but has previously had roles of netball coordinator, been on our committee and social committee,“ they wrote.
“Gab had the 2023 season off to have her gorgeous Billy, too returning in 2024 and has played every season since.
“As a club, we thank Gabby for her commitment, and congratulations on achieving 150 club games with the Lakers.”
On court, the Lakers made no mistake of honouring Finnigan’s exemplary service as they dispatched of Stanhope in a comfortable 55-25 home display.
Skippered by Sarah Sanderson, a supporting cast of Katie Sullivan, Bree D'andrea, Mia Thomson, Tasman Taylor-lloyd, Jessica Perry, Bree Chapman, Abby Harrison, and Rachael Hall did teammate Finnigan proud to earn a second win of the campaign.
Nagambie will be able to bask in its success for a little while longer, with a bye week to come next weekend - before a trip to face Girgarre on the road when they return to action on May 9.
As for Rushworth, they will have the chance to spark an immediate response after this setback as they look ahead to a home clash with the high-flying Shepparton East on May 2.
Elsewhere in the league, Avenel defeated Murchison-Toolamba in a strong 56-35 display to maintain its 100 percent record for the season so far.
The rest of the division had a bye week for the third round of fixtures, with normal service to resume in week four, starting with Lancaster versus Longwood before five other games on May 2.
In the other games that round, Tallygaroopna takes on Avenel, with Murchison-Toolamba hosting Undera, Violet Town coming up against Merrigum, Rushworth facing Shepparton East and Stanhope playing Girgarre.
