The Shepparton Gators will be looking to continue their successful start to the season on Saturday night when they travel to take on Keysborough.
Currently in first spot, the Gators will take on the third-placed Keysborough with plenty of confidence in the tank.
The men from the Swamp have lost only one game so far in the campaign, with a one-point, round one loss to Warrandyte the only blemish in an ideal start to the season.
Gators coach Josh Waight, who will once again be in the hot seat after some time away, said the squad was really looking forward to the challenge.
“Keysborough have probably been the benchmark for the last year and a bit, so we’re really looking forward to seeing where we’re at,” Waight said.
“We can really set ourselves up for the rest of the season this weekend with a good win and we want to make sure we make it really tough for them, but we know nothing is going to be easy, especially down there.”
The Gators last week had a week off, but continued to work on the training track.
Waight took the time to thank his assistant coaches, Troy Lundberg and Wally Armstrong, who took the reins during the head coach’s absence.
“We’ve got plenty of things that we know we need to work on so we made sure we kept working on those things,” he said.
“They’re fantastic coaches and we’re very lucky to have those guys on board, they did a fantastic job of coaching and executing the scouting reports for all three games over the time I was away so really pleased with them and the whole group.”
The Gators will be without Jack Whitlock for Saturday’s game; he is unavailable due to injury; however, the side is raring to go.
“Everyone else should be good to go so we’re really looking forward to the challenge of taking on a really good, well-drilled team playing in a hostile environment,” Waight said.
The Shepparton Gators will take on Keysborough on Saturday, with tip-off at 8pm at the Rowville Secondary College Eastern Campus.
