Construction, by Moretto Building, will take about 18 months and is expected to be completed towards the end of 2027.
At last Wednesday’s official event, Moira Shire chair administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson described the stadium as a “very, very significant project for this region”.
Stage one of the facility will provide two indoor basketball courts, but the stadium will house a range of indoor sports, major events and festivals.
“We very specifically designed the facility to be inclusive of vulnerabilities,” Dr Emonson said.
“We want this to be a facility for the next generations, irrespective of your age, your ability.
“The shortage of indoor sports facilities here has been identified for many, many years, and there's been a really active campaign to address that need.”

It involved upgrading existing facilities in some of the smaller towns, the development of a new sporting pavilion at Scots Preserve in Cobram, and the Yarrawonga Multisport Stadium, which is the flagship development of sporting facilities in the shire.
The two multipurpose courts, with seating, will support basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball, as well as evolving sports like futsal, fitness classes and community activities.

The facility includes a modern cafe, kitchen, tournament office, meeting rooms, toilets and showers, large multipurpose room, umpire rooms, first aid room, Changing Place facilities and four changerooms with two accessible from outside.
“We are excited to watch the stadium take shape this year and we look forward to sharing its progress with the community.”
