After the dust settled on the round, where leader Shepparton East had the bye, the next six sides on the table were all coming off wins over what is now the bottom six.
The round
Merrigum 50 d Girgarre 32
Undera 26 lt Rushworth 73
Avenel 53 d Stanhope 37
Tallygaroopna 28 lt Lancaster 49
Murchison-Toolamba 23 lt Violet Town 43
Longwood 16 lt Nagambie 54
Merrigum vs Girgarre
Merrigum was one of the few sides to make a move on the table in the round, sneaking into the top six after defeating Girgarre 50-32.
The Bulldogs worked effectively around both rings to keep the Roos at bay, with goal shooter Charlotte Thomas and goalkeeper Kasey Boschetti the club’s best in the fixture.
At 3-1-2, Merrigum is holding sixth by half a game ahead of Avenel, while the Bulldogs are only one-and-a-half wins back from the top of the ladder.
Girgarre remains in the bottom three with a 1-5 record.
Undera vs Rushworth
A mismatch on paper proved to be one on the court as Rushworth rolled through Undera at Undera Recreation Reserve.
The Lions’ search for a first win continues after they were outplayed 73-26 by the contending Tigers.
Rushworth remains alongside Nagambie and Lancaster as 5-1 sides, level with Shepparton East (5-0), but with an extra game played.
Undera sits alone at the bottom of the table, the only side yet to taste victory in 2026.
Tallygaroopna vs Lancaster
Lancaster’s Alexandra Hall fires the centre pass.
The Wombats didn’t have it all their own way, but never looked in doubt of securing victory on the road at Tallygaroopna.
Lancaster worked studiously throughout the game, the defence working hard to keep the Redlegs to just 28 goals in the match, while the visiting attackers drained 49 in what was eventually a comfortable result.
Lancaster is 5-1, currently sitting in third spot, level with the leaders.
Tallygaroopna dropped out of the top six with this defeat, now 2-1-2, with a game in hand over most of the league.
Millie Hill restarts from the baseline.
Avenel vs Stanhope
The Swans are looking upwards at the finals spots after securing victory over a struggling Stanhope side.
The Lions hoped a maiden win last week may would kickstart their season, but Avenel showed more quality on its home court, claiming the points 53-37.
Stanhope languishes second from the bottom with a 1-5 record.
Avenel (3-3) is just half a game back from the top six.
In other action, Nagambie had no trouble against Longwood, crushing the Redlegs 54-16.
Violet Town was too strong for Murchison-Toolamba, winning 43-23.
Lancaster goes on the bye next weekend, with some intriguing clashes on the way between sides with finals ambitions.
Leader Shepparton East will host sixth-placed Merrigum, while Avenel could join the top six with an upset over Nagambie.
Other match-ups see Rushworth at home to Murchison-Toolamba, and Tallygaroopna travelling to Violet Town.
The bottom four will face off as Girgarre hosts Longwood and an all-Lions clash between Stanhope and Undera is held at Stanhope Recreation Reserve.
