Moama scores vital win over Rumba

Dane Dickinson kicked three Moama goals as his side handled Rumbalara at the weekend.

Moama did what was needed on Saturday, taking down bottom ranked Rumbalara in Murray Football League to return within range of the finals picture.

A difficult start to the season for the Mowers had the side begin 1-4, but consecutive wins have now improved its prospects, the weekend’s composed 10.11 (71) to 5.13 (43) result a confidence-booster.

On its home ground, Moama got its work done early to quell any hopes of a Rumba upset, kicking three goals to none in the opening term.

The visitor got onto the goals column in the second, but four more Mowers majors saw the lead at four goals and change at the main break.

Rumbalara stemmed the bleeding after the break in a two-goal apiece third term, but the visitor couldn’t make any inroads into the deficit, Moama closing it out in a similarly scrappy final period.

Moama shared the scoring load with eight different goal-kickers, but Dane Dickinson stood above the rest with three majors.

Archie Teasdale’s efforts in the backline earned him best-on-ground distinction from the Moama coaches.

Back within striking distance of the top six, one win back, Moama will hope to string together a third consecutive win, taking on another struggler, Finley, this Saturday.

The 1-6 Cats will host the clash at Finley Recreation Reserve.
