Shepparton United stalwart Rebecca Monk’s impact on her beloved club has been felt both on and off the field.

Seldom few people across the Goulburn Valley can claim to have left an imprint on practically every corner of a sporting institution - but in the case of the Demons mainstay, this description could not be more apt.
Not only has she represented United with distinction as a regular fixture in its Goulburn Murray Women and Girls League backline but she has also juggled a host of voluntary roles in the background.
All while racking up over 50 appearances in the red and blue, captaining the 2025 premiership team, Monk also represented the club as president between 2022 and 2024.
“It’s very exciting to reach that milestone, it’s a small one compared to other ones you see around our community but I’m really grateful to be able to do it wearing the red and blue,” the United regular told the News.
She continues to support the next generation via the SUFNC Junior Pathway Program across football and netball, while serving as Head of Women’s Football Operations.
“With the introduction of junior and female football in the last five or ten years, it’s been really important that we invest in these different areas if you want strength in the future generations,” Monk continued.
“Being a volunteer-based club, we really need young people involved as much as we can!”

When the GMWGL grand final against Mansfield at Moama Recreation Reserve rolls around on August 16, she will have the opportunity to help lead the Demons to a second consecutive crown in her capacity as co-vice captain.
Having shepherded the Dees’ defence since the women’s program was founded back in 2022, she still continues to blaze a trail for talent in the region on the park - kicking her first goal in club colours earlier this season.
Now, all eyes are on the grand final, with Monk and her teammates hopeful of retaining the flag one year on from 2025’s victory over Echuca, this time against Mansfield.
“I’m really excited, it’s amazing to just be fortunate to still be out there playing competitive sport and to be playing with some very young women who have come through our youth girls program,” Monk said.
“Then we also have amazingly experienced players who have come through the VFL and the AFLW - it’s such a diverse group and I’m proud to be part of something that represents this community.
“We have to acknowledge Mansfield in terms of their work with their football program and they should be really proud of making the final.
“If we can win the premiership and go back-to-back, it would be a great feat because of the competition we are facing on the weekend.”
