Barooga has retained its spot inside the top four of the Picola and District Football League at the weekend with a strong win over Mathoura, running out 57-point winners at Mathoura Recreation Reserve.

The Hawks were far too strong for the home side on Saturday, extending the margin at every break off the back of an eight-goal showing from Riley Gow to claim a comfortable 16.9 (105) to 7.6 (48) win.
While the eventual margin was comfortable, Barooga was made to work hard in the first half, with the Cutters putting up a solid fight to keep the Hawks within touching distance at the first break, though the visitors did lead 4.2 (26) to 3.4 (22), and while Barooga did push the lead out slightly in the second term, the advantage was just 6.5 (41) to 5.4 (34) at the main break.
A four-goal-to-two third term, though, pushed the margin into double digits at a quarter-time break for the first time all afternoon, as the Hawks led by 21 at the final change, before busting the dam wall open in the final quarter with a 6.1 to 0.1 term to romp to the nearly 10-goal margin of victory.
It was Hawks spearhead Gow that did most of the damage, booting a game-high eight goals to be named Barooga’s best, while Jayden Geisler was also influential, and both Codi Bowden and Steven Stallion kicked two goals as the only other multiple goalkickers for the Hawks.
The victory ensures Barooga moves inside the top four in its first year back in the PDL following Strathmerton’s loss at the weekend, level on 10 wins with both Katamatite above and the Bulldogs below, setting up a thrilling run into finals with three games remaining.

Elsewhere, Katandra spearhead Joshua Kezerle booted seven goals as the Kats maintained their flawless Picola and District Football League campaign with an 85-point victory over Berrigan on Saturday.
The ladder leader strengthened its grip on top spot with a commanding 19.10 (124) to 5.9 (39) triumph at Katandra Recreation Reserve, extending its winning streak to 14 games.
Reigning premier Katamatite produced the round’s biggest victory, crushing Picola United by 118 points to celebrate Mark Mills’ 200th senior game for the Tigers in style.

The Tigers piled on 22.13 (145) while restricting their opponent to 4.3 (27), continuing their strong season with an 11th victory.
Coach and former Port Adelaide AFL star Tom Clurey booted six goals in the win, while Patrick Riordan was named best afield, as the Tigers move into third spot with three games remaining ahead of finals.
Tungamah was similarly emphatic in its 135-point demolition of Dookie United, winning 26.13 (169) to 5.4 (34).
Waaia recorded a 72-point victory on the road against Tocumwal, 19.12 (126) to 8.6 (54), while Rennie prevailed 16.8 (104) to 10.9 (69) against Blighty.
Deni Rovers returned home from Strathmerton with the points following a 13.11 (89) to 6.7 (43) win, while Jerilderie rounded out the football action with a 9.7 (61) to 4.8 (32) victory over Katunga.
Around the netball courts, Katandra’s A-grade netballers were equally dominant, defeating Berrigan 67-30.
Rennie earned a comprehensive 65-27 victory over Blighty, while Deni Rovers defeated Strathmerton 64-24, as Waaia secured a 46-40 win against Tocumwal and Dookie United edged Tungamah 44-40.
Katamatite defeated Picola United 42-31, Barooga overcame Mathoura 40-30 and Katunga completed the round with a 39-33 victory against Jerilderie.
