Back for its second year, the Win A Million Cents competition by Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme rewards five lucky recyclers across the state with ‘one million cents’.
One of the winners will also score a bonus $10,000 to donate to a registered Container Deposit Scheme charity, school or community group of their choice.
Running from Monday, May 4 to Sunday, June 14, the competition can be entered by recycling eligible containers at container deposit refund points, with one entry granted for every 50 containers returned in a single transaction.
In this transaction, entrants can choose to keep the 10-cent refund or donate it to a Container Deposit Scheme charity partner.
Container Deposit Scheme co-ordinator Vic Return chief executive Matt Davis said the Win A Million Cents competition rewarded Victorians for recycling while helping to ease cost-of-living pressures.
“Victorians are embracing CDS Vic, not only to build a more sustainable future, but because it puts money back in their pockets. Those 10-cent refunds can quickly add up,” he said.
“This competition takes that a step further, with five chances to take home $10,000.
“With cost-of-living pressures at front of mind for a lot of Victorians, the prize money could make a real difference.”
Since the scheme began, over 13 million containers have been returned across Benalla Rural City Council, putting more than $1.3 million back into pockets.
Statewide, more than three billion containers have been returned through the scheme.
Victorian Environment Minister Enver Erdogan said the scheme continued to deliver strong environmental and financial outcomes.
“Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme is transforming the way we recycle, keeping billions of containers out of landfill while supporting families with everyday expenses like groceries and bills,” he said.
“At a time when households are looking for ways to stretch their budgets, the Win A Million Cents competition is a great incentive for even more people to get involved in CDS Vic.”
The competition is open to all Victorian residents, and more information can be found at winamillioncents.com.au
