Opening in November at the Seymour College Arts Centre, this energetic production promises big laughs, big dance numbers, colourful characters and plenty of ’80s nostalgia.
Based on the hit 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer follows Robbie Hart, a charismatic wedding singer whose own romantic dreams come crashing down when he is left at the altar.
Swearing off love, Robbie finds himself falling for Julia, a sweet waitress who is engaged to someone else.
As their friendship develops, Robbie must decide whether he is brave enough to risk his heart again.
Packed with catchy music, outrageous costumes, larger-than-life characters and plenty of romance, The Wedding Singer celebrates love, friendship and finding the courage to follow your heart.
Leading the cast are David Wilson as Robbie Hart and Charli Lewis as Julia Sullivan, supported by a talented ensemble of local performers.
The production is directed by Thomas Boyd, who previously directed Seymour Performers Workshop’s acclaimed 2024 production of Avenue Q, with choreography by Shelley Howard-Boyd and musical direction by Katey Voysey.
For Mr Boyd, returning to Seymour Performers Workshop with The Wedding Singer has been an opportunity to create a production full of energy, humour and heart.

“The Wedding Singer is such a fun show to work on because underneath all the ’80s craziness, big hair and outrageous characters, there is a really lovely story about friendship, resilience and finding your way back to love,” Mr Boyd said.
“The cast have thrown themselves into the world of the show and we can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”
Producer Sarah D’Orria said the production had been a huge team effort, with the cast and creative team bringing an incredible level of enthusiasm and commitment to rehearsals.
“We have an incredibly talented local cast who have worked so hard to bring these characters and this era to life,” Ms D’Orria said.
“There is so much energy, humour and heart in the show, and we’re really looking forward to sharing it with Seymour audiences.
With its unmistakable 1980s style, infectious music and plenty of laughs, The Wedding Singer is set to be a fantastic night out for audiences looking for a fun, high-energy musical.
The Wedding Singer will be performed at the Seymour College Arts Centre on Saturday, November 7 at 7.30pm, Sunday, November 8 at 2pm, Saturday, November 14 at 2pm and 7.30pm, and Sunday, November 15 at 2pm.
Opening night, on November 7, will be an ’80s-themed dress-up night, with audience members encouraged to pull out their leg warmers and neon colours.
Foyer doors open 45 minutes before each performance.
Cocktails, local wine and beer, non-alcoholic drinks, grazing-style cheese and charcuterie boxes, and delicious house-baked desserts from The Brewers Table will be on offer.
