Victorian Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel urged against complacency, reminding voters to check their enrolment status and make sure they understood how to vote formally.
“We are urging all eligible Victorians to make sure they participate at this state election and have their say“ Mr Bluemmel said.
“Voting is our democratic right, and while it is compulsory in state elections for those living in Victoria who are Australian citizens aged 18 years and over, voting is also a privilege that allows each of us to have a real say in our future.
“Every vote counts, so make sure you’re enrolled, understand your voting options and plan ahead to cast your vote by 6pm on election day, Saturday, November 28.”
Mr Bluemmel also reminded Victorians to be wary of false and misleading information and advertising as the various campaigns ramped up.
“If someone is telling you how, when or where to vote, stop and consider where the information is coming from, to help you make an informed decision,” he said.
“The VEC is an independent, reliable source you can trust for information about elections to make your vote count.’“
The Victorian election will be held on November 28, with enrolment closing at 8pm on Tuesday, November 3.
