Having last week unveiled star midfielder Adam De Cicco as their prized recruit for next season, with the former best-and-fairest winner returning to the club after a stint at Shepparton Bears in the Goulburn Valley League, Cobram has announced a raft of signings that will be calling Scott Oval home in 2027.
Among the new signees is Daniel Johnston, another to join the Tigers with experience in the GVL as well as at state level, having spent time with Norwood in the SANFL and four years with Coburg in the VFL, including seven games for the Lions this year.
The powerful forward finished third in the GVL’s goalkicking in 2024, booting 60 goals in 15 games for Mooroopna in a year that also saw him named skipper of the GVL interleague side, captaining the league to a memorable victory over the Ovens and Murray League at Deakin Reserve.
He also has a link to current Cobram ruckman and former AFL player Jackson Trengove, having played under the big man at Barooga in 2022, where he captained the Hawks, while more recently he has plied his trade at Sunbury in the Ballarat Football Netball League, claiming the club’s goalkicking award despite playing only 11 games.
Johnston will be joined at the Tigers by a pair of Shepparton Bears recruits, with both Jayden Gagliardi and Jhett Cooper following De Cicco in making the move to Scott Oval.
Gagliardi will bring plenty of pace and athleticism to the Tigers, and while he can be deployed anywhere on the ground, he knows how to find the goals, booting four of the Bears’ eight majors to be named among the best in their reserves grand final defeat this year.
He also has plenty of senior experience at Shepparton, breaking into the supremely strong side for three games this season.
Cooper too can find the goals, with the high-pressure small forward booting four majors in the Bears’ reserves elimination final against Shepparton United this season, and joins the Tigers backed by 59 senior games at Shepparton, including lining up in the club’s 2024 senior grand final side against Echuca.
Samuel De Cicco is another to return to Cobram too after a year away this season, with the Tigers’ strong recruiting push showing no signs of slowing down as they hunt a return to the top of the Murray Football League tree following the devastation of this year’s grand final loss to Congupna.
