It is aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of dementia while supporting people living with the condition, their families and carers.
Regular community information sessions feature presentations from health professionals and dementia specialists, covering topics such as recognising the signs of dementia, understanding memory loss, managing behavioural changes and accessing available support services.
The 21st edition of these presentations will be held at the Finley Returned Soldiers Club on Thursday, October 15.
Lasting about an hour, attendees are asked to arrive by 10.15am for a 10.30am start.
After a break due to some committee members travelling overseas, the group is delighted to restart the series featuring guest speaker and local doctor, Associate Professor Alam Yoosuff.
Dr Yoosuff needs little introducing, having spoken at these presentations three times already and is proving to be a popular speaker.
The subject addressed will be the latest developments in the management of patients with dementia and memory loss.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to engage with Dr Yoosuff, as well as members of the Alliance.
“Together we can make a difference,” Dr Yoosuff stated.
“Those people with a diagnosis of dementia who still remain active, stimulate their minds and are engaged with their community and friends cope best with the diagnosis.”
