The Sloane family of Mulwala has been awarded the Lions Club 201V6 District, Chris August Memorial Award for 2025.
The honour is the district’s highest award for outstanding service to the local community and is awarded to a community member whose service and community spirit go far beyond the call of duty.
The Sloane family have been donating wool fleece to the Yarrawonga Show for 60 years, as long as the Yarrawonga Lions Club has been in existence and running the annual wool show.
Chris August is recognised as the father of Lionism in North-East Victoria and Southern New South Wales.
He established the district’s first Lions Club in 1956.
Chris achieved a 42-year Perfect Attendance Award and passed away on January 8, 1999.
