Marking the next phase of DC's cinematic relaunch of the decades-long franchise, the 59-year-old director and co-head of DC Studios has confirmed filming on Superman: Man of Tomorrow by sharing an image from the set including a chess board, a Van Kull Prison badge labelled for inmate A Luthor and a bag of Ruffles potato chips.
The film marks a continuation of the rebooted DC Universe following the commercial success of Superman in 2025, which grossed more than $US600 million ($A836 million) worldwide.
It is scheduled for release on July 9 2027, as part of a broader slate that includes Supergirl and Clayface in 2026, followed by The Batman Part II, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
David Corenswet returns in the title role as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as the alien superhero's nemesis Lex Luthor.
