SHEPHERD OAM, Rita Mary

SHEPHERD, Rita OAM

The Geography Teachers’ Association of South Australia acknowledges with great sadness the passing of Rita Shepherd OAM, a Life Member of the Association and a highly respected member of the Geography community.

Rita served the Association with extraordinary dedication over many years, including as President and Secretary, and represented the Association nationally as an AGTA Director.

A wonderful teacher, Rita was also a generous mentor to many colleagues, freely sharing her knowledge, experience and passion for geography. She lectured at the University of Adelaide, supporting and inspiring pre-service teachers as they began their teaching careers. Her commitment to creating high quality resources for geography teachers was recognised nationally, reflecting the lasting influence of her work in geography education.

Rita’s contribution to the Association, to her colleagues, and to generations of geography teachers and students leaves an enduring legacy.

We extend our sincere condolences to Rob, Rita’s family and her many friends and colleagues. She will be remembered with great respect, gratitude and affection.
