Despite going down to a rampant Lions outfit at home over the weekend, Cobram’s A-grade netball contingent appears to be on the up.
“We’re a very new team, so internally for us, we thought we actually had a win because that last quarter, we actually started connecting and having a better understanding of each other's game,” A-grade coach Kate Bird said.
A margin of 15 points eventually made the difference between the two sides on Saturday, April 12.
But coach Bird said she was really happy with the progress her side was making as a team.
“It’s our goal to be better than the week before,” Bird said.
“I’m so excited because every game we’re getting better and better.”
The well-oiled Lions proved their mettle with a dominant showing in each quarter, and Cobram looked to make a late second-half resurgence.
That included some magic by recent Cobram returnee Alahni Hulley in the second half.
“It was only her second match back with us, and by the second half she was just on fire,” Bird said.
But the Tigers’ best efforts weren’t enough to restrain the visitors as the final quarter closed on 30-45 to Mulwala.
In B-grade, Cobram held out by the skin of its teeth with a two-point win over the Lions (36-34), while C-grade action saw the Tigers fall 29-42 to the visitors.
Cobram’s C-grade reserve enjoyed the spoils of a 13-point victory (38-25) over their Mulwala counterparts.
