Mathoura’s under-15 netballers have seen their surprising finals run in the Picola District Netball League come to an end after losing to Tungamah in a preliminary final.

The young Timbercutters became the only side the club had left in the finals series the previous week after they progressed with a battling 27-23 win over Tocumwal, but unbeaten Tungamah would prove a step too far.
Mathoura only trailed 7-3 at the end of the opening period before the Bears largely directed traffic after the first interval.
Tungamah outscored the Timbercutters 10-2 in the second period to lead 17-5 at half-time, though Mathoura stayed in the fight in a third quarter with scarce goalmouth action.
Its defensive effort increased by holding the Bears to one basket in the period, but the Cutters weren’t able to get going in attack, only scoring four times to still trail by nine entering the final period.
In a role-reversal in the fourth, Tungamah found its scoring touch by adding seven to its tally, which all came consecutively to end the game after a lone Mathoura basket.
The Bears stormed home to a 25-10 victory, continuing their undefeated year while bringing an end to Mathoura’s run, which had seen it reach the final four from a seventh-placed finish in the regular season.
