The extra competition was the best odd holes and that went to Shelley Dowling with +2 on a countback from Shirley Wright.
The ball pool went to Byrne and Dowling with square on a countback from Dale Stuart.
In the men’s Wednesday stableford round, Dave Hamilton (9) scored 37 points to win A-grade and John Hedley (19) took out B-grade with 35 points.
The nearest-the-pins went to John Boruch on the fourth, Kevin Summers on the sixth and Dave Pearce on both the 12th and 17th.
The ball pool included Hamilton, Graeme Drummond, Pearce, Hedley and Mark Fountain with 35 points.
The mixed nine holes was won by Bill Brock (18) with a terrific score of 23 points. The runner-up was Stubby Byrne with 19 points.
Saturday was the final round of the club championships and with most grades not having clear leaders before the start of the final round, it put the pressure on the players vying for the titles.
The club champions with the best aggregate scratch score over all the rounds of the championships were Matt O’Sullivan for the men and Stuart for the women.
The men’s A-grade net champion was Peter Sawyer. In B-grade the net champion was John Callaghan, who was delighted with his first win in that event. The C-grade net champion was Graham Kiper.
The women’s club trophy, which is the best aggregate of two net scores over the championship, went to Paula Britton.
In the daily results for Saturday, the men were also playing for the November monthly medal. The B-grade winner was Gary Wright with 88-16=72, which also won him the medal on a countback from C-grade winner Hedley, who scored 91-19=72. Greg Pell won A-grade with 79-6=73 and he also had the best scratch score for the day.
The nearest-the-pin on the sixth was O’Sullivan, on the 12th it was Pell, the 17th was won by Callaghan and no-one claimed the fourth. The drive-and-pitch on the eighth was won by Paul Niebling and on the 15th it was Rod Kuiper.
The ball pool went to Gary Wright, Hedley, John Muscovich, Pell and Kuiper with 74 nett.
The women’s winner on Saturday was Sophie Rilen who had the standout score for the day of 100-33=67. The nearest-the-pin on the 17th was Stuart.
The ball pool went to Rilen, Britton and Dowling with 72 nett.
On Saturday, the club held its presentation night at the Seymour Club. As well as presenting the trophies to the club champions, it was also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of members throughout the past year, including the pennant wins for both the men and women and the top scores achieved by players during the year.
New club president Matt O’Sullivan congratulated outgoing president Sue McCall for her leadership at the club over many years. There was also a presentation of a life membership to Graham Welsh for his hard work and commitment to improving and growing the golf club over his years as a member.
Life member Pat Dawe was invited to present the book she has created showing a history of the club in pictures and stories.
The evening was a great success and it was a good way to cap off the championships.
