Not too many people on this planet leave it without some imperfections, but Lindy could well be an exception.
Her infectious personality, caring disposition and ability to get along with everyone made her a standout and somebody respected by everyone.
If you can get someone to say a bad word against Lindy, don’t try because you won’t.
After Lindy was diagnosed with incurable cancer, she approached the Free Press about writing a story on Kyabram and its assets and why it’s such a great place to live.
Unfortunately, her health declined so rapidly that the interview never took place, but it gave an insight into her positivity and selflessness.
Proof of Lindy’s popularity was evident last Friday when one of the best attended funerals in Kyabram’s modern era farewelled the much loved Lindy.
Big winner
There was 1.5 million reasons why a Shepparton man acted so strangely last week.
His wife even thought he had been shot, his actions were so vigorous and out of character.
But the reason for his antics was explained when he announced he had just won $1 556,751.24 in a Tattslotto draw.
The man will use the money to help his three children and possibly speed up his retirement plans.
Warm weather
Kyabram had its warmest day since March when the temperature climbed to 34.8°C on Sunday.
The last time it was hotter in Kyabram was on March 15 when the maximum reached 39.5°C.
Up to noon Monday, Kyabram Research Station had measured 4.4mm of rain, which began falling earlier in the morning.
Race return
Sweat versus Steam is returning to Echuca on Sunday, November 16, with new organisers.
Proceeds will now be directed to Echuca Regional Health.
The first running of the event in which runners pit themselves against a paddle steamer was in 2009.
There are several categories and more information can be found at sweatvssteam.com.au
Carp caught
The recent Campaspe Carp Catch caught more anglers than carp.
Organised by the Strathallan Rochester Landcare group, it drew hundreds of anglers to Rochester’s River Reserve.
Some 234 anglers registered for the event, and 64 large carp, many of which were females laden with eggs, were removed from the Campaspe River.
Highway ‘unacceptable’
State Member for Northern Victoria Rikkie -Lee Tyrell has called for urgent repairs to the Midland Hwy between Elmore and Mooroopna.
She recently experienced the poor condition of the highway and declared it in its current condition as ‘’unacceptable and putting lives at risk.’’
Water worry
Up at Finley, the local lake is causing some concern due to its declining water quality.
A pristine spot for walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing, canoeing and picnicking, it is being claimed by locals as being a disgrace.
One theory for its decline is that water transfers in recent years had disrupted the lake’s ecosystem.
Did you Know
In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have 'the rule of thumb.'
Also, many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented.
It was ruled ‘Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden’ and thus, the word GOLF entered into the English language.
Local historians
An interesting read by ex-Benallaite Peter Sutton in the October 20 copy of the Cobram Courier on the life and times of explorer Captain Charles Sturt refers to Dr W H Bossence’s reference to Sturt in his book Numurkah.
Dr Bossence of course was a doctor and author in Kyabram from 1961 to 1976 and is known for his books preserving local history.
He was also the founder of the Kyabram Historical Society.
He died unexpectedly on July 26, 1981.

The plan outlines targeted actions to address local challenges such as family, food insecurity, mental health and access to services while promoting equity, inclusion and sustainability.
SQUARE DINKUM
G’day
I woke up this morning with a massive hangover to the sound of my neighbour mowing his lawn.
I was going to get up, but then I thought, ‘‘Nah, stuff it, he can mow around me!!’’
Hooroo!
