Yet more rain (12mm) on Friday resulted in another heavy track for Saturday’s September Medal round and scores on the day clearly reflected that with the conditions and the handicapper the overall winners on the day.

The most important winner on the day though was Brendon Cornwall who took out B grade and his first Monthly Medal shirt with a good round of 100-27-73.
As with most medal winning cards Brendon had a very consistent round with 8 bogeys and a par (on the par four 11th).
Brendon’s nearest challenger for the Medal was the A grade winner in Lawrie Casey who finished with 87-12-75. As with Brendon Lawrie had a solid rather than spectacular round with seven pars and seven bogeys. A long the way he picked up balls for A grade Nearest the Pin on the 3rd hole (the only NTP trophy paid out for the day) and best second shot on the 13th.
Steve Usher finished as the A grade runner up, one shot back, with a round of 86-10-76.
There was an appalling three-way countback to find the B grade runner up with Paul Dickens getting the voucher with 95-18-77 over Paul Kuiper (94-17-77) and Paul Pappin (102-25-77).
Ball comp winners were Alex Kydd, Wil Harrison and the aforementioned Paul Kuiper and Paul Pappin, all with scores of Nett 77.
Kydd and Kuiper also won the best Gross score balls with 86 and 94 off the stick respectively while Graeme Harrison won the best second shot ball on the 13th.
On Tuesday Valley View’s own golfing machine in Daryl Harrison shot 76 off the stick as he won A grade with 37 points from Parkland’s Billy Ryan who had 34 points.
Daryl’s card recorded two birdies (on the par three 9th and par give 14th holes) ten pars and six bogeys in another exceptionally consistent round.
Peter Blackmore had the day’s best score of 39 points as he took B grade by two shots from Peter Lyon with 37 points. The highlight of Blacker’s round was a birdie four on the eighth.
Ball winners were Brenton Sheppard (35 points), Greg Watkins (34), Paul Kuiper (34) and Peter Mangan (34).
Nearest the Pin winners were David Daws (A grade 3rd), Albert Adams (B grade 3rd), Paul Newman (A grade 12th), IQ Ryan (B grade 12th) and John Burrows (First Tea Voucher 15th).
Scott Robinson cleaned out the Eagles Nest with a three on the 8th while Graeme Harrison (9th) and David Gebbie (13th) won the second shot balls.
This week’s event is a 2-Man Ambrose with Mixed, Men’s and Women’s events. Assembly is at the usual time of 1130am.

Valley View women
After course closure due to heavy rain impacted Valley View women’s golf over the previous two weeks, Valley View women enjoyed a two-day break playing two rounds of Stableford at Barham Golf Club last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Firstly, our congratulations to Jenny Bauerle who, playing in the Barham Open two weeks ago, scooped the pool in A Grade returning the best score on each day and claiming the overall win over the two days.
The players who were able to sign up for our golf trip were looking forward to testing their skills on the course which features many bunkers and water hazards.
The best scores on the Tuesday and Wednesday came from B Grade players who exceeded their handicaps.
Lyn Canavan was the standout with the best score on both days.
On Tuesday, her score of 37 points was best on a count back from Judy Greer and on Wednesday she was again the winner with the excellent score of 40 points from Judy Sutton who played very well for her 38 points.
Nearest the pins went to Judy Greer on Tuesday and Gill Thorsen on Wednesday.
In A Grade, Wanda Hacon was the Tuesday winner with 34 points from Von Morris with 33 points. Tracey Wade won on Wednesday with 35 points, with Von Morris the runner up again with 32 points. Wanda Hacon was nearest the pin on both days.

Parkland
Saturday’s stableford event at Parkland was supported by the Shaw Family in memory of David Shaw whom passed away three years ago.
The inclement weather sometimes intervened, however those who played were treated to a special afternoon tea after the game.
Faye Roberts back from holidays won the women’s A Grade with 37 points.
B Grade went to Lyn Berry with 34 points with the round of the day going to Donna Campbell with 39 points for C Grade.
David Kuiper has a strangle hold on winning each week and this week David carded 32 points to win the men’s A Grade.
B Grade was won by Sean Bassett with 37 points.
Runnerup was Mal Williams with 36 points.
Bob Smith won C Grade with 34 points.
Ball winners were Terrie Giffin, Pam Spokes, Ken Campbell, Mick Crompton, Steve Piggott and Mark Percy.
Nearest the pins went to Cameron Willis on the 9th, Brendan Lewis on the 18th and the 6th for the voucher from Firstea Café.
Steve Piggott was on the 1st. Rosemary Britton was closest on the 5th courtesy of NuShade Blinds & Awnings.
Thursday a stableford event was played with Veronica Ryan winning the women’s event with 40 points after a countback from Trudie Plumb and Mary Elliott in that order.
David Kuiper won the men’s A Grade with 34 points. B Grade went to Vin Sleeth with 34 points.
C Grade was won by Jim Miller on 38 points.
Runnerup was Mel Lusher with 37 points.
Ball winners were Ray Falla, Cam Willis, Justin Barnett, Richard Myers and Jenny Cheong- Backway.
Nearest the pins went to Geoff Berry 14th and18th, Paul Price 15th and 9th. Denise Hee was on the Firstea Café 6th.
Veronica Ryan was on the 1st. Thelma Wootton-Jones was on the 14th.
BINGO: This Thursday the Jackpot will be $800 in 54 calla: The Star Flyer will be $3350.

Merrigum Golf
The Peter Cottrell four-person cross-country Ambrose was played at Merrigum on Saturday.
While the golfers avoided most of the rain which fell before and after the event, the wind did pick up around hit-off time which provided a challenge, particularly on the first hole where golfers attempt to negotiate a hazard with a longish drive over the drain into the wind.
The cross-country course is obviously playing just as long as the full course is at the moment if a comparison is made to last year, but Saturday’s weather was also likely more harsh than last year’s.
The Doherty clan, Simon, Craig and Michael teamed with Clint Prygoda and were the clear winners with a round of 65-7.4-57.6.
Clint should have had the long shots covered for the team, but the Doherty’s would have provided the reliability any time Clint strayed, which he has been known to do occasionally.
With four drives per player needing to be taken over the 20 hole course, no player can sit back and leave all the work to the others anyway.
The runners-up were Bill Johnson, Dale Gillie, Brendan Roberts and Bernie McGrath with 71-9.6-61.4, well in arrears of the excellent round put in by the winners.
Nearest the pins were won by Bruce Brown on the fourth green, Clint Prygoda on the third, Craig Doherty on the jackpot ninth, and John Evans on the jackpot eighteenth.
This Saturday’s event is a three-club event sponsored by popular member and hard worker Gary Eden, better known as Gazbo these days.
Just to add to the novelty of the event, there will be two holes on each green, so you can make your choice when you get to the green.
Surprisingly, that doesn’t seem to make good scoring that much easier.
Show your support for all that Gazbo does for our club by enjoying and sharing this novelty day with him.
Kyabram Pigeon Club
Another double header of pigeon racing was held this weekend, with trainers heading to Mossgiel between Griffith and Broken Hill.
The club hosted a normal season race as well as a Breeder’s Plate.
In the traditional format, Kyabram’s Peter White took top spot, his birds averaging a velocity of 1115.35 metres per minute.
Second was Moama’s M and P Racing, logging 1101.97, while Ray and Roza Armstrong of Echuca closed out the podium with 1099.20 mpm.
In the Breeder’s plate, competitors were entitled to multiple entries each.
Well coordinated, Peter White’s groups swept the top four spots, each entry finishing within 11 seconds of eachother.
