Over the course of 11 hours at Burkinshaw St, former players will descend on Barooga Sports Ground, to be joined by a cross-section of members and supporters for an event to remember on Saturday, May 16.
From the class of 1956 through to 2006, half a century’s worth of premiership title winners will form part of this unique spectacle.
“We’re excited to celebrate nine reunion teams as part of a huge day at the club,” a Hawks representative wrote.
“Make sure you lock this one into your calendar. Partners welcome, of course. Bring any memorabilia for the pinboards.”
As part of the garland occasion, it is expected that short speeches from 1956 and 1976 members will be given in the main clubrooms before a tribute will be given to both sides at the end of Barooga’s reserves fixture that same day.
It is planned that the two oldest reunion teams at the event will be presented to what promises to be a crowd of adoring fans, with a guard of honour to be performed to mark their extensive contributions to the club.
Barooga premiership winners from 2006 will be present 20 years on.
Following on from this, the 1956 members will gather under the verandah at the venue to take in the seniors clash, while the 1976 and 1986 teams will join spectators in the Ray Nye Stand.
All other reunion members are welcome to join them or head to The Hawks Club Stand.
After the action on the field, there will be more fun to be had in the form of a Saturday night function, which is booked in at the Nineteen81 Bar at Sporties.
Organisers at the Hawks have announced that doors will open for the festivities from 6pm, with canapés to follow at 7pm before the speeches at 8pm — before the event finishes at 11pm.
Speaking ahead of the day, Barooga president Darryl Bowden’s excitement was palpable.
“It’s the reunion of the sixes so 1956 through to 1976 to 1986 to 1996 and 2006, as we had premierships in those years,” he said.
“We’ve got a 70-year reunion with our 1956 team, with five of those guys still with us and obviously the 1976 is a 50th year anniversary too.
The Barooga class of 1996 are also set to be appearing at the event.
“We're going have the 1956 team seated with the 1976 team behind them, so current senior team will shake all their hands and have a group photo because it’s our 70-year and 50-year reunion.
“Everyone's welcome, we’re having lunch in the main club between 12 and 2pm and anyone can bring their memorabilia along if they want to.
“So anyone can come inside and meet all the reunion players and everything else.”
Supporters can bring memorabilia for the pinboards at Barooga Sports Ground on May 16, with members of the public encouraged to take part.
