Hitting the road to get a win can be as difficult and satisfying a task as any, which is what Mathoura will be hoping to do this weekend.
The Timbercutters are yet to produce a win for the season, and this could one of their best chances to do so.
In a rebuild and adhering to a multi-year plan as a club, and more specifically the football department at Mathoura, results won’t be the proving ground for this young side.
Coach Adam Bourke continues to echo to the group that the aim is to be competitive, and approach every game as a winnable contest.
“It’s funny because I think we had what could’ve been the best three quarters we had from the first to the third last week.
“Then the last quarter could well have been one of our worst, seeing Waaia kick 10 or more goals.
“There are signs of improvement, but consistency remains key to that, which we are really trying to do.”
Consistency will be the key when the Cutters take on Dookie United.
“It is a learning and development phase, but that doesn’t mean we can’t win games,” Bourke said.
“Dookie have been really competitive in their games, so hopefully we have a good contest with them.”
Bourke said the club is also encouraged by the performance of other teams.
“Despite the reserves losing last week, they had a really good fight back in the game - coming back from four goals down before being beaten.
“Our fourths side had a good win, their first of the year I think, which is a sign of the future and some promising signs for it.”
The senior clash at Dookie tomorrow starts at 2.05pm.
