Picola United made a strong start to its 2026 Picola District Netball League season, defeating one of last year’s star sides, Katunga, in its first action of the year.
The Swans came to the first game of the season with a different line-up from the one that went 13-2 last season, but regardless, Picola showed promise for the coming year in a 39-29 victory.
The Blues started the game on level pegging with their opposition at Katunga Recreation Reserve and the first quarter finished deadlocked at 8-all.
Picola started to earn the advantage in the second and had a valuable five-goal lead at half-time, which it then built further after the main break.
The margin extended to seven by the last change and an eight-goal-to-five final term sealed the result.
The Blues will host Rennie on Saturday, the Grasshoppers escaping with a one-goal win in their opening action.
