To complete the story from last week, Libby and Andy Jennings played their final of the 60 and Over Mixed Pairs against John Dixon and Joy Maynard from Cobram last Wednesday at Barooga.
In a closely fought match, exhibiting some fine bowling, Barooga’s own Libby and Andy Jennings won the Murray Playing Area Final. They now play the winners from the Goulburn Playing Area in March to determine the Goulburn Murray region champions.
With the last round of the season for midweek pennant this Tuesday, the annual end-of-season dinner will soon be held for all bowlers who played midweek during the season. Dinner will be after the game next Tuesday at the club, 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
Last week in the midweek pennant, Division One played top side Numurkah Golf at home and won 56/52 with two rinks up to retain top spot. As next week’s game is a replay of the missed round seven, Barooga again plays Numurkah Golf, but this time it will be at Numurkah Golf. The following week, both sides will meet again in the first semi-final. Division Two had the bye last week.
Saturday pennant saw a mixed result, with Division One losing against Numurkah Golf at Numurkah Golf. Division Two had a win at Wunghnu to secure its spot in the finals, Division Four lost on both rinks against top side Cobram but not by big margins and Division Five continued its winning way and won against Cobram.
One more round to go and then on to the finals. For five out of Barooga’s six sides playing pennant to finish in the finals is a great effort from the club and all should be proud of their results. Barooga should thank the selectors for their efforts during the year in selecting sides that were obviously suited for their positions.
