A strong first term allowed the Tigers to establish a 14-point lead, but a resilient Rumbalara hit back in the second quarter to trail by only five points at the main break.
In what remained a tight encounter, Rumbalara’s Levy Tejones proved dangerous in front of goal, booting three majors, but it was Cobram’s Tyron Baden who starred for the visitors, also bagging a hat-trick and earning best-on-ground honours.
The final siren saw the scoreline settle on Rumbalara 8.9 (57) to Cobram’s 9.14 (68).
Across the league, Barooga was no match for visitors Numurkah, with the Hawks’ 8.8 (56) not enough to topple the Blues on 14.11 (95).
Jae Bowden, Nick Dore, Jayden Geisler and Samuel Macheda each contributed two goals to the Barooga tally.

Moama trumped Deniliquin at home in a tight contest on 11.13 (79) to the Rams’ 9.8 (62), while Nathalia went down to an undefeated Congupna, 7.8 (50) to the Road’s 19.14 (128).
Finally, Mulwala enjoyed a 55-point thrashing of Echuca United with a six-major special from Beau Seymour to see his side end with 17.9 (111) to the visitors’ 8.8 (56).
• In the reserves, a Sam Decicco four-goal delight, together with efforts from Joseph Allen, helped put the Tigers well clear of their hosts at Rumbalara, taking the win by 113 points — Rumbalara 2.4 (16) to Cobram 20.9 (129).
Meanwhile, Barooga’s reserves outfit wasn’t strong enough to prevent a tenacious Numurkah taking out a 57-point win, with Barooga kicking 6.4 (40) to the Blues’ 13.19 (97).
Next week, Cobram hosts sixth-placed Deniliquin at Scott Oval, while Barooga has a date with Echuca United, which sits ninth in the league standings.
