Strapping in for another year behind the wheel of his electric green Nissan, Hamilton skidded and swerved to a fourth overall placing across the February 29-March 1 weekend’s five-race event.
With early mechanical issues threatening to derail his chances on the circuit, Hamilton was thoroughly content with his efforts in landing inside the competition’s top four.
“The racing was close and lots of fun, but the car struggled with understeer, hurting my ability to turn the car fast enough through the corners,” he said.
“But (I’m) happy with two third place finishes.”
Friday spelled early disaster for Hamilton, who had to whip out the wrench to repair a knock to the front right wheel following a crash during a practice run.
But there was no stopping his Pulsar in Saturday’s races, as he opened his account for the year with two third place finishes thanks to some masterful manoeuvring.
Understeering troubles slightly marred Hamilton’s performance on Sunday, with a pair of fourth placings leaving ground to be made up if a spot was to be saved on the podium.
A dream start to the final race on the grid had Hamilton’s team licking his lips as he maintained third position in the final lap of the day, before contact dashed any hope of bronze as he crossed the line in sixth.
Despite his Nissan taking a fair beating throughout the weekend, Hamilton sought optimism in its pace over the five-race event.
“The car is a bit battered and bruised, but ultimately is very fast,” he said.
“We will repair it the best we can before the next event at Phillip Island on the first weekend of May.
“I would like to give a shout-out to Declan from Vurgel Precision Automotive, who helps me at the track with the car and to my very supportive sponsors; Future Fitness 24/7, Intune Automotive, Cobram BETTA Home Living, Cobram Bolt Supply, Artavilla's Emporium, BR&JK and SnD Group.
“I wouldn't get a chance to do what I love if I didn't have their support, it means so much to me.”
