Suspended driver was on his way to work when caught

The court heard police stopped Eagles on the Goulburn Valley Hwy at Wunghnu on April 8 last year.

He did not have a driver’s licence as it had been suspended for six months in February 2021.

Representing himself in court, Eagles said he was driving to get to work as a boilermaker in Mooroopna when he was pulled over.

When asked by the magistrate if that meant he was driving to work every day, Eagles said he did “on the odd occasion” but he usually got a lift with his partner but couldn’t that day.

“I thought I’d be an idiot and chance it,” he said.

He is now unemployed.

Eagles was fined $1200 and ordered to pay $85.70 in court costs.

His driver’s licence was suspended for two weeks.
