This joint initiative between Cobram Community House and NCN Health will see a door-to-door pick-up service that will enable those who may be isolated in their homes the opportunity to attend local activities, events and meetings.Clients/passengers will need to register their names with Cobram Community House, and groups and clubs will be the information providers for participants.
Volunteer bus drivers will be providing the service and their role will solely be to pick up and deliver passengers; any assistance needed will need to be provided by the client/passenger.While the service already has some volunteers, more are sought in order to share the load.
The bus is an 11-seater with wheelchair access, and volunteers are only required to have a current driver’s licence.
A current police check and medical will also be required.
This is expected to be a rewarding role for volunteers, as they will be gifted with the ability to provide a service to those in the community who would not otherwise be able to participate in various activities.
It is important to note that this project in the main has been funded through local support, and the bus will carry signage to recognise those donors.
Ongoing funding will be required to operate the service in the future, and those contributors will also be recognised on the bus.Anyone interested in participating in this project as a volunteer or donor contact is urged to phone CobCAB project officer Rob Morey on 0427 721 989 or email cch@cch.vic.edu.au
