The drive supports the ‘Your Empties, Full Tummies’ campaign, a partnership between CDS Vic and Foodbank Victoria running until mid-October.
Every five eligible containers returned generates one meal.
The campaign has already raised $26,000, providing more than 51,000 meals through Foodbank Victoria.
Foodbank Victoria supplies food to 27 schools and two charity partners in Greater Shepparton and feeds 76,000 Victorians daily, providing more than 70 per cent of the state’s food relief.
Demand has increased by 10 per cent in the past six months.
FOOTT chief executive Andrew Yeoland said the drive offered locals a meaningful way to contribute.
“We know Greater Shepparton is a community that gets behind people when they need a hand, and we’re proud to host this donation drive at our Shepparton depot,” Mr Yeoland said.
Foodbank Victoria chief executive Dave McNamara said Foodbank services were at an all-time high, and simple behaviours could help.
“With demand for food relief at a record high, simple actions like donating your 10-cent containers can create real change for the 76,000 Victorians who rely on Foodbank every single day,” Mr McNamara said.
The container drive will be held at CDS Vic Depot, Shepparton, operated by FOOTT, at 10 Carroll Rd, Shepparton East on Saturday, September 12 from 8am to 4pm.
Refunds can also be donated at any CDS Vic refund point via reverse vending machines, the CDS Vic app, or over the counter at depots by selecting Foodbank Victoria as the recipient.
