In early August, the Rotary Club of Seymour took a stand against domestic and family violence, launching a 16-week campaign to “say no”.

The club’s Say No to Domestic and Family Violence campaign officially kicked off on Monday, August 10 when Rotarians came together at Seymour’s Royal Hotel donning the iconic purple shirts of the campaign.
For 16 weeks, the local club will be issuing a Monday Message, where businesses in Seymour will display a fresh poster each Monday to raise awareness.
“Over the coming 16 weeks, participating businesses throughout Seymour will display a new Monday Message each week – a simple, visible prompt designed to encourage conversations about respect, healthy relationships and the role we can all play in preventing domestic and family violence,” Rotarian Jane Challis said.
“We have been delighted by the support already received from local businesses, whose staff are helping make the campaign visible by wearing purple and displaying the weekly posters.
“We would also warmly welcome any other local businesses or organisations that would like to become involved.”

Youth not-for-profit Gnarly Neighbours was one of the first local organisations to get on board with the campaign.
On the day Say No to Domestic and Family Violence was officially launched, the charity released a statement on its Facebook page saying it was “backing this message”.
“At Gnarly Neighbours, we work with young people every day, and we know how important it is that they grow up surrounded by positive role models, healthy relationships, respect and safe places to belong,” a Gnarly Neighbours spokesperson said.
“That means speaking up when something isn’t right.
“It means challenging harmful behaviour. It means listening, supporting and showing our young people what respect looks like through our own actions.”
To mark the end of the campaign, the Rotary Club of Seymour will host a major community event on Friday, November 27, including a community walk and free barbecue at Kings Park.
This will be followed by an evening event with speaker Matt Brown, co-founder of the global She Is Not Your Rehab movement, at the Seymour Community Art Centre.
This event falls within the international 16 Days of Activism, held annually between November 25 and December 10.
