The rally benefits the Cancer Council, and will set off on June 15 from Melbourne and finish in Alice Springs on June 22.
This weekend, the team known as ‘The Deni Girls’ will be hosting a cake stall and launching a massive raffle in the CBD.
The team members are Bree and Sam who, due to the nature of their work, have asked that their full names not be published.
The duo’s team car is affectionately known as ‘Algae’, prepared for them by Deni Car Care and colourfully wrapped in bright colours and rally stickers.
Set up in the Deniliquin Lions Kiosk in Cressy St this Saturday, the girls will have an array of sweet treats on offer from about 8.30am.
All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Council, and EFTPOS facilities will be available.
The duo has raised more than $10,000 so far and hope to reach $15,000 before they depart on the rally.
Helping them toward that goal will be the major raffle, which has been well supported by local businesses and sponsors.
First prize is five nights accommodation in a motor home from Edward River Caravan and Camper Hire (T&Cs apply), second is two tickets to the Deni Ute Muster and third is a children’s party at Deniliquin BIG4 valued at $250.
Lots of other prizes will also be on offer, including a gourmet hamper, custom fire bucket, wine gift box, Deni Business Chamber gift card, The Deni Girls merchandise, hair products and goodies donated by The Depot, Harry Pepper Coffee, Pallet Pieces, Pattinsons Pastoral Butchery, Bloomfield Cartoons, The Fitting Studio and the Coach House Hotel.
Also up for grabs is a guided tour of Deniliquin in ‘Algae’ with complementary beverages and snacks.
Tickets are $2 each, or three for $5, and available at the cake stall tomorrow.
