The Moira Shire Council is asking for the community's help to redevelop the Punt Rd area in Cobram.
The council is developing a master plan for the Cobram Punt Rd precinct, which includes the former Apex Caravan Park land, the Cobram Civic Centre and the outdoor swimming pool.
The council has posted a request on Facebook for community feedback, with the council’s panel of administrators chair John Tanner saying the council was eager for feedback on how to best utilise the space.
“The Punt Rd precinct is located in a prime position, creating connections between the centre of town as well as with nearby residential areas, making it essential for fostering a sense of community and enhancing the overall livability of our town,” Mr Tanner said.
“Over the course of this project, we will continue to engage and work with the Apex Park Committee who have been passionate advocates for public use of this site – something with council is committing to through the development of the Punt Rd Precinct Master Plan.”
Following the call-out, community members have suggested transforming the area into parkland with a barbecue space, playground and an off-leash dog park and redeveloping the pool.
Additionally, some community members have proposed a community vegetable garden or building a children’s play centre or low-cost affordable housing.
The request for feedback by the council will be used to assist in the development of a master plan, which will determine potential public uses for the site.
The redevelopment of the Punt Rd area has its roots back in October 2023, when a motion was made at a council meeting that noted the proposal to complete a master plan on the area known as the Punt Rd Precinct Cobram.
The motion also reconfirmed the land, formerly known as the Cobram Apex Caravan Park, will be retained for public use.
