On Saturday, April 11 a day of support and gratitude was held in the wake of the devastating bushfires that had affected the district.

The event began as an idea discussed at Cobram Community House.

Members of Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism, local musicians and several residents started a conversation looking at ways to bring the community together.
Generous sponsorship from businesses and organisations in the town enabled a wonderful day and evening to be offered as a boost to those affected by the fires, and a big thank you to all first responders who assisted local people in need during a very tough period.

While numbers attending were lower than anticipated due to unfavourable weather and many activities being held in the town, emergency services personnel and young families enjoyed a great day out.
A line-up of talented musicians played throughout the day, children’s activities were many, and kept youngsters busy, while face painting was popular even among the young adults.
Rod Cavagna, Mick O’Neill, Maureen Cavagna and Jan McRae enjoyed the day out at the Firies festival and fun day.

The thirsty crowd enjoyed the bar services provided by the lads at Apex and a delicious barbecue was cooked by Rotary together with other food trucks.
Members of the Boosey Creek Cruisers and Cobram Country Cruisers showcased some beautifully prepared vehicles, the pride and joy of their owners.

Winning first prize for his 1964 Holden EH station wagon was Ken Phillips, winning a $100 fuel voucher, a prize undoubtedly well received today.
The general feeling of the day was connection and understanding of the harrowing time people have experienced and continue to.
There is a long-term effect and special days and events such as this are so appreciated by those affected in any way through heavy financial loss of property and livestock, which will require a long recovery.
