NEMA representative Faryal Nawaz Khan said both organisations were committed to assisting individuals and families through the settlement process, providing a wide range of services tailored to the needs of new and existing migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and the broader community.
“As part of this ongoing support, NEMA has resumed its free English classes at Waminda, every Tuesday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, aimed at helping culturally and linguistically diverse community members improve their conversation skills,” Ms Nawaz Khan said.
“These classes are designed to support pathways to employment and greater community participation.”
Waminda Community House manager Leeane Bullard said that in addition to language support, NEMA also offered free driving lessons, along with various forms of advocacy, outreach, social support and community events.
“To further reduce social isolation and strengthen community resilience, NEMA and Waminda look forward to welcoming our multicultural community, young and old, to the Link-Up program held every Wednesday at the CWA Hall,” Ms Bullard said.
“Link-Up volunteers and staff create a safe and welcoming space to come together, have a chat and develop friendships.
“Our current participants are hoping to learn some new creative techniques and cooking skills.
“Sharing parts of our culture is a beautiful way to learn and appreciate other cultures.
“What a fabulous opportunity for us all to come together.”
Morning tea is offered for $6 from 10am to 11am.
“And if you like, stay on for the creative sessions from 11am to 1pm,” Ms Bullard said.
Ms Nawaz Khan said NEMA warmly encouraged members of the multicultural community to join this welcoming and inclusive social gathering.
“It’s a great way to connect, share and build friendships,” she said.
“NEMA supports a significant number of multicultural community members in Benalla and across our wider catchment areas.
“Our programs are designed to empower individuals and promote meaningful community engagement.”
Ms Nawaz Khan said this year marks NEMA’s 20th anniversary.
“We’ve been proudly serving our catchment areas over the past two decades as a multicultural organisation, supporting CALD communities throughout that time,” she said.
The NEMA Benalla office is open every Wednesday from 9.30am to 2.30pm at Waminda Community House, providing face-to-face support and a welcoming space for community connection.
