It joins Berrigan Shire council, Federation Council and Indigo Council in recognising that jurisdictional lines are often crossed in the community’s day-to-day life.
It is hoped the memorandum (MoU) to improve service delivery, provide access to quality community infrastructure and provide positive social and economic outcomes.
The group of councils are aiming to better inform decision-making, attract investment and adopt collaborative views on planning, funding and projects.
The principles of the MoU are to appreciate each council’s view and work towards finding common ground, cooperation, open information sharing, maximising service delivery to meet community need, reduce costs and eliminate duplication and seeking to be innovative.
The agreement also contains five focus areas; regional and nationally significant issues, aligning services and sharing information, community infrastructure works, local transport and regional economic development.
Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said they all recognised communities at a regional level had many common experiences and interests.
“There are townships along our borders that are entirely integrated and interdependent. Therefore, the relationships of the communities within the four local government areas vary, depending on geographical and individual circumstances,” he said.
“We all recognise that at a regional level our communities have many common experiences and interests.
“The principles of the memorandum of understanding will establish the basis for the mutual commitment to and management of the agreement.”
