The funding is part of council’s ongoing Community Strengthening Grants program, which supports not-for-profit organisations to deliver projects, programs and events that benefit residents across the shire.
Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the grants helped remove barriers and created a shire that was healthy, safe and connected.
“By fostering social and cultural inclusion, we are ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, ability or background, has equal opportunity to participate in and contribute to our community,” he said.
More than $26,000 has been shared between three community groups as part of the latest round of grants.
Numurkah Community Learning Centre received funding for its Numurkah Lego Club, enabling members to plan a resource-gathering trip to grow the club’s equipment.
Marking 40 years of service, Numurkah Toy Library will use its grant for a digital upgrade, introducing a code-based system to streamline operations for volunteer workers and improve the experience for the young families who rely on the service.
Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House received funds to continue its popular Have a Chat, Talking Café and Men’s Bush BBQ programs.
Council has also endorsed the Moira Shire Arts and Culture Grants Program Draft Guideline, with community members, creative organisations and cultural groups invited to provide feedback.
The guidelines have been developed to provide structured, transparent funding to eligible community organisations and individuals delivering arts and cultural initiatives.
Dr Emonson said a thriving arts and cultural sector contributed to wellbeing, connection and a strong sense of place for our local community.
“We have an annual funding allocation for the arts and your feedback will help us build a grants program that truly reflects the diversity, identity and aspirations of people right across Moira Shire,” he said.
Funding will be offered through two streams:
Stream one: Creative Arts Triennial Funding — three-year funding for established organisations delivering sustained, place-based creative arts programs.
Stream two: Arts and Culture Grant Funding — annual project-based funding for arts and cultural projects, events and activities.
