The funding to begin planning work for future dialysis services, along with the welcome provision of two community cars to assist patients who must continue travelling for treatment, is greatly appreciated.
I also want to acknowledge Sue Duscio and Dianne Raco, who have worked tirelessly for years to secure dialysis services for Cobram.
Their commitment, passion and advocacy have played a significant role in getting us to this point, and the community recognises and thanks them for their unwavering efforts.
Understandably, many locals are feeling hopeful and excited about the prospect of dialysis treatment being available in Cobram.
It would be life-changing for patients and families who currently endure hours of travel several times each week.
At the same time, it is important we remain clear that the current funding supports planning only, not yet the construction of a dialysis unit or the installation of dialysis chairs.
With the planning phase now under way, we look forward to receiving further details from the minister and the department, including expected timelines, how the plans may progress into a funded build, and ultimately, when Cobram patients might be able to access dialysis locally.
The two community cars will ease the burden for patients who still need to travel, and we are grateful for this support.
But our long-term goal remains unchanged: to see dialysis delivered here in Cobram.
I will continue to advocate strongly for this outcome and ensure our community is kept informed every step of the way.
