The Katamatite Lions Club has celebrated another successful year of community service, including a $14,000 donation towards fire recovery efforts following the Yarroweyah fire.

The donation was raised through the club’s annual rodeo in January, with the funds going to the bushfire victims.
The Lions Club also made donations to local sports clubs, community groups and brigades that helped with the rodeo, with special certificates presented to volunteers in recognition of their efforts.
The club’s fundraising efforts extended beyond the rodeo, with $700 provided to sponsor two children from Katamatite Primary School to attend Somers Camp.
Members also supported the Good Friday Appeal, raising $2025 for the Royal Children’s Hospital through change tins.
Another highlight of the year was the celebration of Katamatite’s 150th anniversary, with the Lions Club contributing $2000 towards the celebrations, helping throughout the day and hosting a barbecue at the event.
The club was pleased to once again be involved in the junior public speaking competition and wished the winners headed to the district final later this month good luck.
The achievements were celebrated at the club’s 52nd changeover at the Numurkah Bowls Club on Sunday, July 26, with around 30 people attending.
The afternoon included a catered lunch, before the celebrations concluded with karaoke.
Four Lions members — Spence Curtis, Neil Gillespie, Graeme Hendy and Graham Lukies — were also honoured during the changeover, each receiving the Chris August Memorial Award for their outstanding service, hard work and dedication to the local community.
Past district governor Neil Stuart inducted the incoming office bearers for 2026-27, with Mr Curtis returning as president for another consecutive year.
“I look forward to another year as president of the Katamatite Lions Club, serving the community and welcoming any new members,” Mr Curtis said.
Graeme Hendy, Neil Gillespie and Spence Curtis each receieved the Chris August Memorial Awards. (Graham Lukies also received the award but was absent.)
