There are now both Facebook and Instagram GSSC alumni pages, designed to keep school memories fresh and track the achievements of former students.
The initiative, part of the Shepparton Education Plan, was led by Year 12 students Hadia Mirza, Mia Neal, Ella Wanjohi and Lachlan Gribble, and guided by school leaders Zarina Fleming and Myfanwy Saxton.
Executive principal Barbara O’Brien said the timing was right for a modern platform.
“We launched as a new school in 2020, so all current students and many of our staff have only ever known GSSC as their high school,” she said.
“The time has come for us to have a 21st century space where we can celebrate a school, we’ve become so proud of, and a place where so many people have made friendships set to last a lifetime.”
The new network is designed to go beyond social connection, offering networking, career and education opportunities, future events, mentoring and college reunions.
Mia won a design competition to create the GSSC alumni logo.
“It will be a great place to say, ‘Hey, remember when I said I wanted to do that? Well, look where I am’,“ she said.
Ms O’Brien is the honorary first registers member and hopes to see thousands join in the future.
