It’s that environment that has made working at ERG so enjoyable for Gigi Chacko.
She was appointed facility manager in October 2024.
Since moving to Moulamein, Gigi says she has found it to be one of the best places to live and raise a family.
“What stands out most is the strong sense of community,” Gigi said.
“People smile, say hello, and genuinely support each other. It is very different from larger towns and cities.”
When Gigi first arrived in Moulamein, her son Akku was enrolled at the local preschool, helping the family quickly connect with the community.
Over the past year, she and husband Sanjay have also welcomed their daughter Tara to the family.
Gigi said she especially appreciated the support provided by local community nurse, Georgina, who visited the family at home following Tara’s birth.
“Moulamein is a place where you feel safe and supported,” Gigi said.
“There is a real sense of security and belonging here.”
Prior to joining ERG, Gigi worked at a larger aged care facility with over 120 residents.
She believes one of the greatest strengths of ERG is its smaller, more personalised environment.
“At ERG we know our residents personally, along with their families and next of kin.
“That personal connection allows us to provide more individualised care and support.”
Gigi also praised the commitment and dedication of the ERG staff team.
“Our personal care staff are exceptional. They are caring, committed and always willing to support residents and each other.”
ERG currently employs two full-time registered nurses, including Gigi, along with a part-time RN and a casual RN from the local Moulamein area.
The facility also reflects the diversity of the wider community, with staff members from Australian and other cultures working together to provide high quality care.
ERG currently sponsors three staff members - one from India and two from Nepal - while six Filipino-Australian staff members have made Moulamein their long-term home. Eleven staff members are Australian-born.
“We are proud to have a multicultural workforce that works together so well,” Gigi said.
Located centrally between Swan Hill, Barham, Deniliquin, Hay and Balranald, ERG offers residents access to a wide range of professional services and supports, including pharmacy services, physiotherapy, podiatry, visiting hairdressers, GP visits and in-house vaccinations.
The facility also supports residents to remain active within the community.
They regularly attend the Moulamein Art Gallery for coffee and cake outings, participate in weekly bingo with community members, enjoy gardening, cooking activities and outdoor barbecue gatherings in the facility’s garden spaces.
Residents are encouraged to maintain independence and continue participating in community life, with family and friends welcome to visit or take residents out as often as they wish.
“Even though ERG is a small facility, we aim to provide the highest quality care while helping residents maintain a fulfilling and connected lifestyle,” Gigi said.
