This month, the Royal Australian Mint will release a series of $1 coins in a flashy tribute to the iconic cookbook, The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book, a classic piece at home on thousands of kitchen shelves the country over.
Cobram Lotto owner Dean Clydesdale said he was excited to be part of the mint’s latest coin release.
“I’m over the moon to be able to bring these delightful new coins to Cobram,” he said.
“Each coin honours one of the book’s most iconic cakes.
“From the unforgettable Choo-Choo Train that graced the cover and inspired countless birthday wishes, to the jelly-filled Swimming Pool, the lolly-laden Candy Castle and the charming Cuddly Koala — these coins are a delicious tribute to the iconic Aussie book.”
Each coin captures the likeness of the cake on which its design is based.
There are coins bearing popcorn hairstyles, sprinkles galore and chocolate-finger echidna quills.
Classics such as Rubber Ducky, Dolly Varden and Robert Robot also make an appearance.
The coins are available in a collection as part of this recipe card box, indexed and ready to go.

Royal Australia Mint acting chief executive Emily Martin said the coin program told the story of many Australian childhoods, including hers.
“I have such fond memories of growing up with this book — my sister and I would choose our birthday cake weeks in advance, and Mum would do her best to recreate them,” she said.
“This coin collection is a tribute that spans generations. Whether you’re a child of the ’80s or beyond, or a collector, you’ll really get the sense of fun this coin collection brings to mind.”
The coins will be available from Cobram Lotto from Thursday, June 12.
