Mr King received an ATAR of 94.75 — the highest achieving student from all Cobram enrolments.
“I was stoked, I wasn't surprised but I was proud of myself for the hard work I put in,” he said.“I think I found the right balance between studying and other things.“I was pretty good with remote learning where a lot of kids at my school would have struggled with it.”Mr King said the time he would usually spend travelling to and from school was put towards studying.
He plans to study commerce at Melbourne University in 2021.“School was fun but I'm excited to take the next step in my journey,” Mr King said.
Up to 37 per cent of Goulburn Valley Grammar School students scored an ATAR of more than 90, placing them in the top 10 per cent of the state.
Goulburn Valley Grammar School principal Mark Torriero congratulated Mr King and the entire class of 2020.
“Despite the trials and disappointments experienced last year, their focus on learning and community never wavered,” Mr Torriero said.“As an open entry non-selective school, we particularly acknowledge the effort, persistence and learning growth of students who faced adversity and challenges.
“They fully embraced all aspects of the cocurricular programme in diverse areas such as music, sport, community service and leadership.”
