With much of Victoria battling flooding, community fears were raised that Cobram could have faced the same fate as towns further south.
However, according to Cobram SES deputy unit controller Luke Herezo, there is no need to fear.
“At this stage, we won’t be at risk of flooding,” he said.
“It’s the Goulburn and Broken River which are affected.”
Consequently, despite what is happening in other areas of Victoria, people will still be able to camp along the Murray River and Thompsons Beach can still be enjoyed.
However, Mr Herezo said that despite Cobram not being on the immediate front-line of the flooding and storms, residents should be aware that situations could change hour by hour and day by day.
The Cobram SES deputy unit controller has urged residents to always keep up to date with the latest in weather and emergency news via official channels such as the VicEmergency app.
The start of 2024 has seen Victoria suffer extensive inundations across many regions, with residents in towns such as Yea, Seymour and Rochester ordered to evacuate as floodwaters engulfed their towns.
Travellers should check to see if their routes are flood-affected and never drive through floodwaters.
