Formerly known as the Tocumwal Airshow, the event will take place at Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19, bringing historic aircraft back to one of Australia’s most significant wartime airfields.
Presented by Paul Bennet Airshows in partnership with the Tocumwal Aviation Museum, the event will see the entire Paul Bennet Airshows fleet travel south to fly alongside the museum’s aircraft.
Mr Bennet said the airfield’s history made it a fitting home for the expanded event.
“There is no bigger warbird site in this country than Tocumwal,” he said.
“In 1942 it was the largest air base in the Southern Hemisphere and the biggest the RAAF has ever operated, with 5500 people on the ground, 58 Liberator bombers, 28 crews trained and out the door every month.
“So we’re not just putting on an air show at an airfield, we’re bringing the Warbirds home and making it the biggest flying program we’ve ever assembled for Tocumwal.”
Built during World War II, the Tocumwal airbase trained aircrews before later becoming a place where hundreds of aircraft were flown to be broken up ― three of its original 1942 timber hangars still stand today.
Tocumwal Aviation Museum founder Matt Henderson said the air show gave visitors a chance to experience that history where it happened.
“You can read about this place, but standing on that airfield with warbirds roaring overhead is a different thing entirely,” he said.
“That’s what we’re offering people, that history in front of them, on the very ground it happened on.”
The flying will be joined by carnival rides, market stalls, food and drinks, flight simulators, classic and military vehicle displays and live entertainment across both days.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Julia Cornwell-McKean said the event had become an important drawcard for the region.
“The air show has become one of our region’s great success stories and these exciting changes reflect just how far the event has come since 2019,” she said.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors in 2027 for what promises to be our biggest air show yet.”
Early bird tickets are on sale until May 31, with two-day, single-day, concession and family options available ― children under six can attend for free.
